Where online can I buy sheets of sterling silver to make jewelry?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2010 and filed under silver jewelry | 5 Comments »

I see lots of jewelry supply sites and sterling silver jewelry, but so far I can’t find a supplier of plain sterling silver pieces.

I need to cut sheets of the silver to make jewelry…

Know of any website? Thanks :)

www.firemountaingems.com would be my first choice, although i am unsure of the cut sheets of silver. i know they used to offer coils-like any wire.

How to Plating Silver Jewelry Different Colors?

Posted by admin on June 1st, 2010 and filed under silver jewelry | 1 Comment »

Hi.

I am a jeweler , i can plate my silver jewelry to black and gold but some my customers request red, blue, green colored silver jewelry. Not enamel coating. Things must be look still shiny like metal surface. So I don’t know anyway to do it. Is there anyway for it. Perhaps color alloys if available etc. Thanks.

Hi,

If you can use aluminum instead of silver, then you can anodize the aluminum and infuses a pigmented dye into the anodized coating and attain virtually any color with a metallic look to it. If you have to stay with silver, then you’ll have to find and apply some glossy transparent organic coating (i.e., paint) with the color you require.

How do you wash silver jewelry so it looks clean and like new again?

Posted by admin on May 26th, 2010 and filed under silver jewelry | 5 Comments »

It’s not really its like the silver looking jewelry that you can buy anywhere for like 5 dollars. The silver is getting dark and it looks like rust, but I’m not sure if it is. How do you clean it so it looks like new again?

The absolute best product I have seen to clean silver jewelry are these wipes by Connoisseurs. They come in a red tub-like thing. Here is a link to what the tub looks like: http://www.lacywest.com/wipes.jpg
I know they are sold at Kay Jewelers but I think the might also be at WalMart and other such places. These wipes remove ALL the tarnish and make your jewelry look GREAT, brand new! They have even worked on quarters that I am saving for the state quarter collection.
From what I have always been told, you should not use any type of liquid cleaner on silver jewelry. Only dry cloths.

Why does my silver jewelry turn black sometime after I use the silver cleaner?

Posted by admin on May 20th, 2010 and filed under silver jewelry | 4 Comments »

The jewelry does say it’s silver and I got a new jar (the dipping kind) of cleaner.
How do I keep my silver jewelry clean? It looks great coming out of the cleaner, but after a while it looks worst then it did in the first place before I even wear it. any ideas?

hey…i know its a big problem
the reason is that due to the presence of sulphur particles in air the silverware "tarnishes"
it menas a blackish layer is formed, resulting in a dullish look ,,,,
u can do 2 things
1. either keep it in clean surroundings(maybe the place where u have kept the container has more sulphur in it )
2. the best way to clean it is -applt toothpaste to it and then rub it with the help of medium hardness brush(toothbrush).and the container will shine again …and probably for a longer time!!!
take care
